Nursing Numbers: New Mexico’s Nurse Shortage

New Mexico has a statewide nursing shortage, however there is tremendous variation in different areas. For example, Sandoval, Bernalillo and Grant counties have¬†more nurses than the US average of 9.9 per 1000 residents. Of New Mexico’s 33 counties, 22 fall below the national average – Hidalgo, Luna, Torrance and Socorro counties well below. Data is from the New Mexico Board of Nursing 2014 annual report.
