Copays Behind Bars

The map and information below looks at which jails in New Mexico charge copays for medical care or prescriptions. Click an individual facility to find out more. The information was obtained by calling individual facilities. Prisons are run by the NM Department of Corrections, but jails are individually run by counties. All jails provide medical services regardless of ability pay. Just over 40% of jails charge copays, with a wide variety in cost and policies. Marisa’s full story with more details is here.
