Marisa Demarco reported on the work of a task force on jails and mental health. Their newest report identified several possible solutions. Included in the report was data on the existing inpatient psychiatric capacity in New Mexico. 227 of the 491 psychiatric beds are in the Albuquerque area. The map below shows these facilities.
The report estimated that on average there are almost 900 inmates on psychotropic medication in New Mexico jails, and many more with unmedicated mental health issues.
And here is the full report.
